Sankofa is an African (Twi) word and Adinkra symbol that means “Go back and get it.” The symbol is represented by a stylized heart shape or a bird with its head turned backwards, feet facing forward, carrying an egg in its mouth. The word and symbol originated from the Akan tribe of Ghana.
